A support question can contain a product-improvement opportunity, but first describes a task somebody could not resolve. Turning it immediately into a sale mixes the promised service with undefined additional work. Commercial learning becomes useful by distinguishing correction, explanation and another need while retaining original resolution.
Similar departures can conceal different tasks
Coveo and Arlington Research asked 4,000 adult online shoppers in the US and UK about frequent retailer-website shopping problems in December 2025. Statista records difficult search or browsing at 30%, irrelevant recommendations at 28% and slow sites or errors at another 28%. These are reported experiences rather than support requests or verified causes in a particular business.

Coveo / Arlington Research / Statista. Multiple answers are neither added nor interpreted as tickets or lost sales. Statista cites p. 17 of the 2026 report; the original landing confirms total N and countries, but the full PDF is form-gated and its table was not independently accessed. No inferred country N or attributed software effect.

The comparison requires naming the blocked step. Cannot find can concern absence, confusing presentation, insufficient permission or capability never included in the offer. Support requests minimum distinguishing context and retains unknown cause when evidence cannot resolve it.
The GOV.UK research-analysis guide separates observations, findings and actions. Applying that distinction to support retains events separately from interpretation. Help-seekers’ messages are not representative research covering every customer.
Clarifying a condition and correcting a fault require different interventions
Baymard’s US 2025 checkout series recorded by Statista reports unavailable upfront total cost at 14%, unsatisfactory return policies at 15% and site errors at 15%. This is another question and population. Its role is distinguishing information, offer conditions and execution rather than forecasting revenue from addressing them.

Correction restores a committed capability. Explanation enables existing capability. Another need may require out-of-scope preparation or execution. An incident does not establish that work’s market, and payment cannot become a condition for fixing a defect or receiving included help.
The answer returns control over the task
Customers need state, available action and the next owner. Waiting distinguishes internal work from pending information without invented deadlines. Authorized handoff avoids retelling an entire conversation: it transmits necessary context while justified originals retain limited access.
W3C explains that repeated help mechanisms retain the same relative order within the applicable page set and variation except user-initiated changes. This does not require permanent human support or adding absent mechanisms; here it supports finding offered help.
The shared record describes task, difficulty and consequence without identities, private quotes or reconstructive combinations. Categories retain links to observations. More messages may follow legitimate activity growth rather than worsening experience.
The pattern becomes a change with an owner
Priority combines harm, affected tasks and resolution effort. New explanation appears where uncertainty begins; another page cannot replace a product or promise correction. Changes include related instructions and responses so interface and support stop describing incompatible versions.
Complementary offers need their own inputs, delivery, exclusions, price and capacity. They follow clarification of original coverage, can be declined without losing it and are studied among eligible customers sharing the need. Refusals and pending operations remain recorded rather than counting every request as a potential buyer.
Ticket closure does not establish resolution
The proposed rate relates eligible cohort requests resolved within a window to all eligible requests in that cohort. Resolution can mean restored task, delivered information or understood boundary; reopened cases remain. Active time and waiting are separated where known alongside prolonged cases.
Requests per completed task and blocked tasks complement totals. Falling requests with falling completion might reflect harder help access or silent abandonment. Additional offers are assessed through usable outcomes and later support without automatic causal attribution. Support contributes to growth by turning difficulty evidence into better service rather than charging for a deficiency it should resolve.
