Airmoney credit can expire, but a purchase resets its expiry by one year. Airalo explains the rule in its help centre , which defines the reward as an in-app currency for future purchases. It makes the next trip a specific commercial moment: the customer needs data again and already has an economic reason to return.
With a travel eSIM, the need appears and disappears with the journey. The relationship does not require daily app use to retain its value. It requires the buyer to remember the service, purchase a suitable package and connect when travelling abroad again.
The reward grows with the purchasing relationship
Airalo’s published loyalty programme offers four reward rates, from 5% for Traveler members to 10% for Platinum Traveler. Payments made with Airmoney do not count towards advancing status. The progression distinguishes purchases bringing new payment from those consuming accumulated credit.

For the customer, credit reduces the amount paid in a later transaction. For the company, it is a benefit offered in the expectation of retaining that purchase. A higher percentage makes returning more attractive, while requiring the reward’s cost to be included when assessing the relationship’s contribution.
Credit also competes with the price of the chosen connection. In April 2024, Juniper Research estimated average spending for that year at US$8.57 per GB for roaming and US$5.50 for travel eSIMs, in figures reproduced by Statista. These are global estimates, not matched prices for one destination or Airalo tariffs. The difference places the reward within a choice already comparing alternatives: returning makes sense when the complete package remains useful and competitive alongside the available credit.

User numbers do not settle that comparison. Airalo announced on 2 June 2026 that it had surpassed 30 million customers . The release discusses returning travellers without disclosing a repeat-purchase rate. That reach measures an accumulated relationship; it does not establish how many customers will buy again or the contribution of each purchase.
The customer’s calendar is the travel calendar
A balance reminder can arrive when the customer has no trip planned. Its usefulness differs from the incentive available once there is a destination and departure date. Loyalty in an occasional product depends on bringing the reward together with that need, rather than multiplying contacts between journeys.
Expiry adds another reason to open the app. The help centre says both purchases and the addition of Airmoney reset the expiry date by a year. Credit can preserve contact, but a read notification does not demonstrate a changed buying decision. The commercial result appears when the traveller chooses another useful package.
A product distinction also prevents every repeat transaction being treated as the same operation. Airalo says Airmoney cannot currently pay for renewals. Buying a package and renewing it do not necessarily follow the same payment path. Benefit communication needs to respect that difference.
Returning also depends on the first connection
The incentive competes with a more immediate memory: whether the product worked when the traveller needed it. Airalo’s compatibility guide requires an eSIM-capable device without carrier restrictions. Settling that condition before payment protects the first experience on which the next offer depends.
Usage guidance has a specific historical precedent. In Amdocs and Dynata’s August 2022 study, reproduced by Statista, 42% of 2,500 adults across the US, UK and Australia said they did not know what an eSIM was. The historical figure does not estimate awareness in 2026. Its role is to distinguish having a compatible phone from understanding the product: before another purchase can be expected, the first requires instructions a traveller can follow through to a working connection.

A registered account, a paid package and a satisfactory connection are different moments. Combining them can make the relationship look established while the customer still needs help. Reward credit does not automatically compensate for an unusable purchase; confidence depends on resolving the connectivity need.
Reading Airmoney’s economics requires following the relationship into the second purchase and considering the cost of retaining it. That order’s contribution includes applied credit, the delivered service and the assistance the customer needed. Without those elements, an encouraging repeat rate can conceal the effort required to achieve it.
The next trip gives Airalo an opportunity combining memory of the service with a price incentive. The priority is bringing both together in a purchase the traveller can use. That moment decides whether Airmoney preserves a commercial relationship or merely a balance in the app.
