Bankinter raised its Digital Account annual equivalent rate from 2.5% to 3% for new customers on September 15, 2026. The offer pays interest on balances of up to €100,000.

Its documentation identifies Bankinter S.A., tax ID A-28157360. Its corporate history dates its Madrid origins to 1965.

Include incentives in acquisition cost

Promotional applications through the website or app run until October 28. The bank retains the payroll-deposit incentive of up to €600 gross in the first year for the first 50,000 accounts. That cap defines promotional eligibility; it does not report how many accounts have opened.

For an acquisition team, the incentive forms part of the cost of attracting that response even when it is absent from the advertising budget. Comparing campaigns only through media spending can favour an offer whose economic cost sits in another accounting category.

Where a digital application is interrupted

An online application brings the offer explanation, identification and account opening into one journey. If a customer abandons it, the reason may concern understanding conditions, having documentation available or completing a step. Grouping all abandonment as lack of interest obscures the difference between a proposition problem and an operational problem.

Commercial improvement should preserve that distinction. A clearer explanation can help somebody decide the offer is unsuitable and reduce inappropriate openings. A fast application that conceals a condition can increase immediate response while damaging the subsequent relationship.

Observe payroll deposits and subsequent use

When a campaign seeks to move recurring behaviour, observation does not end at account opening. The team needs to know whether intent becomes sustained action and what effort is needed to support it. The mere existence of an account leaves that question unanswered.

It also matters to separate behaviour brought forward from behaviour created. Someone who already intended to switch banks may use the offer without the incentive causing the decision. Mistaking that response for additional growth makes it harder to determine what to pay for the next acquisition.

What outcomes are missing from campaign evaluation

The announcement guarantees that the nominal interest rate applied will remain unchanged until April 30, 2027. It publishes offer terms without campaign conversion, acquisition cost or retention figures. The analysis here concerns the commercial mechanism.

A closing date and promotional limit can organize the customer’s decision, but the message must retain access conditions. Urgency serves the business only when the journey it proposes is understandable.

Savings remuneration and salary transfer acquire different behaviours

Bankinter's Digital Account combines a reason to move savings with another to redirect recurring income. The 3% AER makes the first visible; up to €600 gross in the first year adds the second. For marketing, account opening sits between those behaviours. A campaign can attract savings without salary or salary without the maximum balance. Its economics become understandable when those situations retain separate measures instead of every opening being presented as an equivalent relationship. The offer's two reasons to respond need to remain visible after the person clicks the acquisition message.

The bank describes Digital Organisation as an acquisition driver and places contracting on its website and app. The product becomes part of the acquisition message: rate, access to funds and rewarded behaviour appear together. That requires continuity between advertisement and account opening. Someone should recognise which benefit follows maintaining a balance and which depends on receiving salary. The journey cannot end at calling the proposition a remunerated account when the two incentives have different rules and calendars. Clear separation makes the commercial promise interpretable rather than simply larger in a headline.

Liquidity adds a tension for the bank. The announcement says funds remain available, so an attracted balance is not an immovable commitment throughout the period. Remuneration can acquire a relationship that changes as the user moves money. Opening records therefore need the balance actually retained and recurring activity alongside them. The notice publishes no campaign results. The economic thesis follows its design, which pays for financial behaviours different from registration. A digital account can be technically created before either behaviour appears, making administrative volume an incomplete measure of commercial acquisition.

Half an AER point is not a guaranteed annual payment

Raising the rate from 2.5% to 3% is 0.5 percentage points, or a 20% relative increase on the previous reference. This is arithmetic comparing advertised rates rather than customer growth or account income. The Bank of Spain explains AER as an annual reference and distinguishes the applied nominal rate. Bank of Spain explanation .

Entry and remuneration run on different clocks. Bankinter accepts promotional contracting from Sept. 15 through Oct. 28 and guarantees the nominal rate will not vary through April 30, 2027. An annual reference does not make that twelve months for every new account. The €100,000 remunerated-balance ceiling also does not establish that every customer holds that amount. Precise communication keeps date, balance and condition beside the percentage so the product benefit is not interpreted as an identical fixed sum for everyone responding to the campaign.

That distinction changes cohort comparisons. A September opening and one near closure can maintain the relationship for different periods before the common date. Comparing only accumulated interest or movements would favour whoever had longer. Analysis needs recognisable account age and the contractual calendar kept separate. No individual return is calculated here because amounts, duration and actual terms belong to the contract. The story concerns a mechanism acquisition messaging needs to explain, rather than providing a personal savings recommendation or estimating what every customer receives from the advertised rate.

Online banking familiarity differs from changing banks

Statista, using INE's 2024 data, reports electronic banking use among 87.3% of Spanish internet users aged 35 to 44 and 62.1% aged 65 to 74. The population used the internet in the previous three months; visible details give no numerical sample size. These are channel habits, rather than switching intention or Bankinter customers. The figures place digital contracting in context without treating everyone as a beginner. Someone already banking online can understand the channel while still evaluating another banking relationship. Friction can concern moving a behaviour, understanding conditions or completing identification rather than simply using an app. Age and period boundaries keep the benchmark limited. It is neither an expected opening rate nor evidence of which segment responds best to September's remuneration offer. A familiar channel reduces one unknown in the journey but cannot establish willingness to reorganise an existing financial routine.

Accepting an entirely digital channel raises another question. In Q2 2026, 26% of Spanish account holders aged 18–64 surveyed by Statista could imagine handling financial transactions exclusively online. This is stated willingness with a different base from age-based usage. It does not identify who will open the Digital Account or transfer savings or salary.

New customer refers to the bank's offer. It does not necessarily mean someone has never held an account elsewhere. The campaign competes for a relationship and behaviours potentially established with another provider. Salary therefore has a different commercial meaning from a click: changing its destination can reorganise a routine. The notice publishes no measurement of that transfer, but the incentive identifies the step sought after initial attention. Marketing needs to retain that difference rather than classify every registered account as a complete move of the user's banking activity.

Up to €600 needs the words up to retained

The notice expands eligibility from the first 40,000 accounts to the first 50,000. The difference is 10,000 eligible accounts, a 25% capacity increase on the earlier ceiling. That is another design comparison rather than an opening result. Capacity defines how far the incentive can extend. It cannot establish remaining places or acquisition speed without execution data the announcement does not publish. A deadline and finite allocation are factual features, while claims of current scarcity would need a live count instead of being inferred from the ceiling.

Maximum amount and first-year payment create a longer observation period. Opening an eligible account does not establish fulfilment of every condition for the maximum reward. The relationship needs to reach the behaviours determining payment. Advertising that maximum as the automatic benefit of every opening would misstate the proposition. Marketing accounts need actually paid incentives alongside their corresponding population so headline attraction is not confused with expense incurred for every customer. Eligibility, completed salary transfer and maximum payment are separate stages even if one campaign promotes them together.

The account limit also does not describe the budget. Media, opening operations and support add to incentives ultimately paid. Balance remuneration belongs to another part of the economics. Comparing campaigns only through advertising leaves out costs this product makes explicit. The useful commercial unit is an activated, sustained relationship with recognised balance and salary behaviour. Registration cannot be assigned a contribution still depending on later actions. The announced capacity is a boundary for the offer, not evidence that the bank has spent a corresponding sum or acquired the maximum number of relationships.

The landing page needs to organise two reasons to respond

A visitor may arrive for savings return or the salary benefit. The commercial page should preserve that entry so the journey explains the relevant step. Combining both into one promise can lead someone to open under a different expectation from the condition later encountered. Abandonment analysis should distinguish comprehension from identification difficulty. Correcting the message and correcting operations are different jobs, even when both can reduce incomplete openings. The campaign's two motivations provide a specific basis for that distinction rather than a generic call to make every digital journey faster.

The deposit comparison in the announcement adds a detail: access to funds. That advantage does not justify promising the same amount to everyone. A changing balance can produce different remuneration from one retained. Commercial content should explain units and periods instead of highlighting only maxima. Such clarity can filter unsuitable demand and improve relationship quality without necessarily raising the immediate volume an acquisition dashboard shows. A person understanding the offer and choosing not to proceed is a different outcome from one unable to complete a process they intended to finish.

Oct. 28 creates verified urgency around contracting while April 30 limits another promise. Reporting should recognise which date prompted the observed action. Someone can advance an opening to retain the offer without a wholly new intention to change banks being created. The campaign can gain speed without the same quantity of additional demand. Economic attribution needs follow-up beyond the entry peak near closure. The announcement explains the offer's improvement, while the difference between accelerated and incremental relationships requires observation of what happens after the promotional entry window ends.

Opening costs arise before the sought behaviour

Digital contracting combines product explanation, identification and account creation. Resolving questions or correcting information happens before the bank knows whether salary will arrive. That work belongs to acquisition even outside media buying. Channel assessment needs accounts that never activate and the tasks they required retained. Analysing only successful relationships removes part of the offer's cost and favours a conversion story starting too late. The bank's proposition needs the complete entry population, not just a selection of users who eventually receive the advertised maximum benefit.

Operating capacity can influence the journey. An incident requiring human intervention differs from someone deciding not to contract after understanding the conditions. Records should distinguish cause and achieved stage rather than describe both as lack of interest. Campaign documentation gives no abandonment measurement. The digital mechanism permits a specific reading: establish which step prevents moving balance or salary under the same definition for both motivations. That reveals whether the issue concerns the offer or its execution instead of treating every incomplete application as the same commercial rejection.

An inactive created account can carry different maintenance costs and usefulness from a recurring relationship. Evaluation should preserve the distinction and the time available to act. Opening does not establish salary receipt or retained balance. The promotional objective needs recognisable stages through the sought behaviour. That continuity assesses the message without replacing it with an administrative account total whose commercial outcome remains open. The case's rate and salary combination makes those later actions material, rather than optional extra metrics detached from what the campaign actually promises.

Actual balance explains what the maximum cannot

The €100,000 ceiling defines the remunerable portion under the announcement, while observed economics depend on amounts and duration. Accounts opened together can retain different balances and receive different payments. Combining them as equivalent responses hides the savings proposition's outcome. Commercial reporting needs that distribution and its remuneration cost rather than assigning every opening the attraction of the advertised limit. The maximum helps explain eligibility; the real balance history determines how the relationship uses the product and what the bank pays to maintain that reason for staying.

Salary has a different continuity. Recurring income may connect the account with other routines, but the campaign publishes no later outcome. Follow-up should distinguish receipt, duration and relationship activity over a defined period. A paid bonus does not establish indefinite loyalty. This article invents no future customer profitability. It explains why the incentive calendar opens a longer observation than contracting and requires the rewarded behaviour's context retained. Measuring only the opening deadline would miss a material part of what the salary proposition is trying to achieve.

Relationship cost also extends beyond initial payment. Supporting use, resolving questions and maintaining communication belong to the operation retaining a customer. Comparison needs a coherent account of incentives and service without subtracting twice anything already included in contribution. The product gives a concrete reason for that reading: it combines remunerated savings and salary within one contract. A single cost per opening can hide differences between those populations, making the headline campaign look efficient even when the later behaviours require different work or generate different economic value.

Earlier acquisition and additional acquisition are different outcomes

A deadline can advance a decision by someone already considering the bank. That shift may be useful without automatically being an incentive-created relationship. Cohort comparisons need later observation and simultaneous product or distribution changes recognised. The notice describes the offer improvement rather than a causal acquisition design. Interpretation retains promotional capacity and observed openings separately from additional growth one might wish to attribute. A clearer rate or larger eligibility ceiling can change when demand responds, which should not be counted identically to creating demand absent the campaign.

The serious commercial objection is selection of users who arrive for the reward and disengage later. The same mechanic can attract people who incorporate a useful account into their routines. The headline amount cannot decide the outcome; retained balance or salary behaviour and service cost do. That is the reading worth following after entry closes: which behaviour persists and what expense was needed to obtain it, without calling every account receiving one payment loyal. The two incentives make the distinction central to the campaign rather than an abstract warning about promotional customers.

Bankinter combines two promises within a digital account, but its success unit is more demanding than opening. Remunerated balance and redirected salary involve different costs and timelines, while the 50,000 ceiling defines eligibility rather than results. The combination creates an attractive message. Its tradeoff is maintaining that clarity through actual behaviour so the annual percentage, maximum reward and calendar do not produce more records at the expense of a relationship users understood differently. The commercial result lies in the sustained conduct purchased by the offer, rather than the registration count alone.

The promotional deadline and account cap identify the applications eligible for the offer. To assess acquisition cost, the bank would need to connect them with incentives paid and subsequent use over a defined period. The announcement provides no such follow-up.
